Laura Woods has backed the idea that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal should try to secure the transfer of Jude Bellingham in the summer after Liverpool reportedly pulled out of the race for the Borussia Dortmund star.
The Arsenal fan and talkSPORT presenter did admit that she can’t see Arsenal getting a deal over the line for Jude Bellingham because her club doesn’t buy those ‘big marquee’ signings, even though she thinks her club need those types of signings if they are to compete with Manchester City next season.
Some pretty bad transfer news came out of the transfer rumour mill for Liverpool overnight, it was suggested that the Reds have put their foot on the brakes for Bellingham, as reported by the Times on April 11.

That’s a body blow for the Liverpool fans because they have been crying out for a player of Bellingham’s ilk – even Steven Gerrard shared that he would try to play a part in getting him to Anfield.
This probably isn’t a case of the 19-year-old himself not wanting to join the Merseyside club, but the powers that be at Liverpool not putting the required money on the table.
Nonetheless, when the news around Bellingham broke, Arsenal fan Laura Woods reacted to the Bellingham news and if Arsenal should try to get him, as she told talkSPORT Breakfast (12/04/23 at 6:25 am).
“The only reason I couldn’t see it happening is because, I know they spend money, but not massive, big marquee signings like that,” said Woods. “The kind of money you would be spending to get Bellingham out of Dortmund would be monstrous, right?!
“If they really want to try and compete with Manchester City next season, in the way they have this season, those are the kind of signings it takes. What’s the most (we have spent), what is it, £72 million on Pepe?! I can’t see them doing it.
“They were after Declan Rice, so I don’t know. That’s an area where Arsenal need to make sure they have got reserves, perhaps another centre-back. That’s a big shout. I would be fascinated – I would love to see him here.
“If I was a Liverpool fan, and I was reading that this morning or last night, and I going thinking ‘we are going to get someone like a Jude Bellingham’, who could transform the team.”

‘WORLD-CLASS’ BELLINGHAM
One thing that can’t be denied, Bellingham is a ‘world-class’ talent in the middle of the park, but what’s even scary, he will only get better.
If Arsenal are to win the Premier League title, then why shouldn’t they go for a player like Bellingham? They will have Champions League football to offer as well.
Yes, not many, if anyone, can compete with a club like Real Madrid, but if he doesn’t head to Spain and does return to England, then the Gunners should do everything to bring him on board.
