Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both reportedly scouted Christian Eriksen in the summer of 2011.

While Arsenal are struggling to make it into the top four of the Premier League at the moment, Tottenham Hotspur are set to end up second in the standings.
The Gunners could still finish in the Champions League places, but it would be a massive surprise if Tottenham do not end up above them in the Premier League table.
One of the key players for Spurs this season has been Christian Eriksen. The Denmark international attacking midfielder has scored six goals and created 79 chances in 27 Premier League appearances for the North London outfit so far this campaign.
Eriksen is 25 years old, and his best years are ahead of him. Tottenham fans must be delighted to have such a superb footballer in their team.
Interestingly, Arsenal could have had signed Eriksen before he moved to Spurs. The midfielder joined Tottenham from Ajax in the summer of 2013 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £11.5 million.
According to a report in The Mirror back in June 2011, Arsenal were following Eriksen at Euro Under-21. Tottenham were also reportedly watching the Dane, who was 19 years old at the time.
It seems that while Tottenham continued to monitor Eriksen and made the approach when they should have, Arsenal moved on to other transfer targets.
Among the players that Arsenal recruited in the summer of 2011 were Gervinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joel Campbell – none is, and never will, be as good as Eriksen.
