Arsenal surprisingly chose to loan William Saliba out again this summer, and Marseille are absolutely loving his performances.

The Gunners paid big money to sign Saliba from Saint-Etienne in 2019, believing he was a star of the future.

More than two years on, Saliba still hasn’t made his Premier League debut for Arsenal.

Saliba spent the first year back on loan at Saint-Etienne. Mikel Arteta didn’t fancy him last season, so he spent the first half of 2021 with Nice.

Arsenal then sent Saliba on loan for a third time, this time following Matteo Guendouzi to Marseille.

Saliba helping Marseille thrive

Marseille beat Rennes 2-0 on Sunday, with Saliba keeping another clean sheet.

That’s two league clean sheets in a row and just one goal conceded in the last three games.

Marseille sit second in Ligue 1, behind only Paris Saint-Germain.

Expecting them to challenge PSG would be outrageous, but Saliba can help Marseille qualify for the Champions League.

With a tough Europa League group too – Galatasaray, Lokomotiv Moscow and Lazio – Saliba is earning valuable experience ahead of his Arsenal return.

Marseille rave about Arsenal loanee Saliba

Marseille are unsurprisingly loving Saliba’s progress, and tweeted about him on Tuesday.

They tweeted four key words to describe Saliba’s recent performances; calm cool, clutch and composed.

This is exactly what Arsenal will have wanted from Saliba’s latest loan spell. They want to see him grow as a player before returning to the Premier League.

Being branded calm, cool and collected is perfect for Arsenal, and Saliba is showing the Gunners what they want to see.
