It has been reported that the 28-year-old Egypt international defensive midfielder is ‘available to the highest bidder’.
The reported willingness to sell Elneny comes despite the midfielder playing well for Arsenal in the FA Community Shield against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium in London this past weekend.
The former Basel star started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as Mikel Arteta’s side won on penalties.
According to WhoScored, the defensive midfielder had a pass accuracy of 92.3%, won two headers, took 62 touches, and made two tackles, one interception and two clearances.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright was impressed with the display produced by Elneny and praised him on Twitter.
No future at Arsenal?
Elneny has been on the books of Arsenal since 2016 and spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Turkish club Besiktas.
The Egypt international defensive midfielder has not always been great for the Gunners, and it seems from the report in The Daily Star that he does not have a future at the Emirates Stadium.
Perhaps Arteta should give the defensive midfielder a chance to show that he can succeed under him in the coming weeks before making a decision on his future, as the summer transfer window will run until October.
