Arsenal have reportedly made Napoli striker Victor Osimhen a ‘priority’ ahead of the summer window – and Kanu is a big fan. The Arsenal legend said last September that Osimhen is currently, the best player in Serie A.

Osimhen, 23, struggled to find his best form at Napoli – after joining Maurizio Sarri’s men from Lille. He scored just 10 goals in 30 appearances during his first season. This term, his goal return is much improved.

He has reached the same tally already, after just 17 appearances. A facial injury has hampered his progress, keeping him sidelined for eight Italian league games, and ruled him out of Nigeria’s AFCON campaign.

But his form is attracting Arsenal as per the Mirror, who desperately need to sign a striker . Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in June, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has joined Barcelona until 2025.

Speaking about Osimhen earlier this season, Kanu is quoted by Nigerian outlet Phenomenal as saying: “Osimhen, if you ask me, is the best player in Italy. He is the best player in the Italian league now.

“If he maintains his form he will win the African Player of The Year award sooner than expected. There are other Nigerian players doing very well in Europe, but Osimhen is presently the best.”

Kanu on Osimhen: Arsenal would be pulling off a transfer masterstroke

CalcioMercato report that Napoli want a fee in the region of £58million and £66million for the striker – who is showing he can relocate to a new country and still score goals. It shows a move to England would hardly deter him.

He is perfect for Mikel Arteta’s side. Osimhen is also ideal for what Edu is trying to do at Arsenal – bringing in experienced, proven players who are still below the age of 25. Osimhen is exactly that, ideal for Arsenal.

If there was any doubts at Arsenal regarding Osimhen, Kanu’s comments from earlier this season makes a move for Osimhen a no-brainer.
