Arsenal reportedly offered £65m star Szczesny thinks could be ‘best in the world’

If there was one player who benefitted from Maurizio Sarri’s underwhelming spell in the Juventus hot seat, it was Paulo Dybala.

A forward who lost his way under Max Allegri was a man reborn in Turin last season, the mesmeric MVP of a Juve side who were frequently indebted to the Argentine’s ability to turn a game on its head with one swing of his lethal left boot.

With 17 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, Dybala appeared to be on the right track again, his foot slammed down on the accelerator and speeding towards superstardom. Flash forward to the present day, however, and the former Palermo talisman has spun out again.

While Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata are scoring for fun in Turin, Dybala is struggling to find a place in Andrea Pirlo’s side.

In ten games, he has scored once and failed to produce a single assist while falling back into those old habits – too many touches, too little patience.

With Juventus failing to tie Dybala down to a new contract, 90Min reports that the Scudetto holders are not only listening to offers for their South American superstar but are actively encouraging them.

90Min reports that Dybala, who agreed a £65 million deal with Tottenham in 2019 before the move collapsed (Sky), has been offered to the Premier League’s ‘big six’ – including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

While it is debatable whether Mikel Arteta is capable of getting the best out of an enigmatic talent – with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Willian toiling as Mesut Ozil watches from afar – Dybala feels like exactly the kind of mercurial matchwinner capable of turning those draws and defeats into narrow, nervy but necessary one-goal wins.  

Just ask Wojciech Szczesny, the former Arsenal goalkeeper now standing between the sticks at Juventus.

“I’ve played with Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Mesut Ozil,” he told the Independent.

“That meant picking the ball out of the net from some very good players in training, but Paulo Dybala is a special talent, he could become the best player in the world.”

Three years on, Dybala is now 27. He is not even the best player at Juventus, let alone the entire planet.

But as long as he is capable of putting the ball in the back of the net against Wolves, Aston Villa and Leicester, Dybala will be more than good enough for this Arsenal side.
