Arsenal are the main candidates to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, according to Marca.

However, according to the report in the Spanish publication, Arsenal and Atletico cannot agree on a deal.

The report has added that the Ghana international defensive midfielder has turned down the offer of a new contract from his club Atletico.

Positive for Arsenal

Partey is one of the best defensive midfielders in La Liga, and Arsenal being reportedly the main candidates is good news for the club and the fans.

It shows that the Gunners do have a very good chance of securing the services of the 27-year-old this summer, with Juventus also interested in him, as reported by Marca.

The summer transfer window will run until October, and there is still enough time for the North London outfit to complete the transfer of Partey.

Bleacher Report claimed earlier this month that Arsenal have ‘intensively monitored’ the defensive midfielder for the past two seasons, but they need to sell players first to raise funds to sign the Ghana international for £44.5 million.

Partey – described as “unbelievable” by his Atletico teammate Kieran Trippier on The Beautiful Game Podcast on June 29, 2020, as transcribed by Football.London – would make Arsenal a better team in the middle of the park and would enhance head coach Mikel Arteta’s side’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
