According to Sky Sports, Arsenal are having second thoughts about sending Rob Holding on loan to Newcastle United.

It has been reported that the Gunners are currently unwilling to allow the 24-year-old central defender to leave for Newcastle.

The report has suggested that the North London outfit are considering whether or not to bring in a replacement for the Englishman before letting him leave.

This report on Sky Sports comes after The Times claimed that Holding – described as ‘a versatile player, comfortable at both centre back and full back’ on Arsenal’s official website in July 2016 – was set to leave the Gunners for the Magpies on a loan deal.

Arsenal hold all the cards

Arsenal have signed a defender in Gabriel already this summer, and head coach Mikel Arteta now has too many centre-backs in his squad.

It is very likely that the Gunners will let one or two leave, including Holding, but the North London outfit do hold all the cards.

After all, there is no need for Arsenal to make a decision on the future of the former Bolton Wanderers player right now, as the summer transfer window runs until October.
