Arsenal are confident that they will be able to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon before the summer transfer window closes next month, according to The Express.

It has been reported that Arsenal’s opening bid of £32 million for the French midfielder – described as “incredible” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Sky Sports in November 2018 – has been turned down by Lyon.

The French club are looking for £54 million as transfer fee for the 22-year-old, but Arsenal ‘remain confident’ that they can get the deal done in the coming days, according to the report.

Stats

According to WhoScored, Aouar has made two starts and one substitute appearance in Ligue 1 for Lyon so far this season.

During the 2019-20 campaign, the midfielder made 23 starts and two substitute appearances in the league, scoring three goals and providing four assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

The youngster also scored one goal and provided four assists in eight Champions League matches in 2019-20, according to WhoScored.

Positive for Arsenal fans

The report in The Express is encouraging for Arsenal fans, who should be optimistic that a deal for Aouar can be done in the coming days, and that the talented and promising young midfielder will play for the Gunners this season.
