Arsenal reportedly close to triple deal that would totally transform broken culture at the Emirates

Arsenal are expected to be heavily active during this summer’s transfer window.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has a lot of work to do at the Emirates this summer, if he is to guide his side back into contention for a Champions League place next season.

One particular department where the Gunners obviously need to improve is their defence, and Emery has already begun his rebuild in earnest with the capture of Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer.

Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos looks set to follow the Swiss international to the Emirates, according to the Independent, whilst German media outlet Bild suggest that RB Leipzig ace Lukas Klostermann is also on Arsenal’s radar.

With one signing already confirmed, and two potentially on the way, the Gunners could be on the verge of transforming their susceptibly weak back-line into one packed full of experience and quality.

The north London outfit have been woefully inept defensively over the past decade, and their fragile back-line has seriously undermined their chances of competing for major honours.

Lichtsteiner and Sokratis are experienced winners, and are both natural leaders – two qualities that Arsenal have desperately lacked recently.

Klostermann, meanwhile, is a player with great potential, and at just 22-years-old, he has plenty of years left ahead of him to evolve into a real top-class defender.

Most importantly for the Gunners, though, they will finally have a back-line that includes genuine leaders, and one that does not overly rely on the diminishing skills of Laurent Koscielny.

There will also finally be some accountability amongst the Arsenal defence, with characters like Lichtsteiner and Sokratis unlikely to accept anything less than 100 per cent effort.

The Gunners will head into the new season with a buzz of excitement around them for the first time in a very long time, and if they can secure the signings of the Dortmund and Leipzig aces to supplement Lichtsteiner’s arrival, they will be in a great position to close the gap on the top four.
