Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are interested in signing Luka Jovic from Real Madrid in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.

The Sun have reported that Arsenal are planning to make a late loan bid for the Madrid striker and see him as potential alternative to Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic.

The report in the British tabloid has suggested that the Serbia international striker is open to a loan move to Arsenal, stating that the 24-year-old is ‘eager to prove himself in England’.

Luka Jovic would be risky for Arsenal

In our view, Jovic would be a risky signing for Arsenal, even on a loan deal.

The striker is rated very highly, but he is not doing well and is not playing regularly for Madrid at the moment.

Jovic has made 11 substitute appearances in La Liga for Carlo Ancelotti’s side so far this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in the process.

The Serbian has made one start and two substitute appearances in the Champions League and has played once in the Copa del Rey for Madrid this campaign.

If Arsenal are looking for a striker who can make an immediate impact, then, in our view, Jovic is not the right one.

Now, of course, we know how good Jovic was at Eintracht Frankfurt which convinced Madrid to spend £50 million on him (The Sun).

Former Frankfurt manager Adi Hutter, now at Borussia Monchengladbach, described Jovic as “a world-class striker who brings extraordinary ability” in February 2021, as quoted in ManagingMadrid.

However, can Arsenal take the risk of signing a striker who has not played much season and may not hit the ground running?
