Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom produced a career highlight performance for England’s under-20 side.
Chuba Akpom has been much talked about as an Arsenal youth goalscoring sensation, and he is doing it for his country too.
The striker is currently with England’s under-20 side as the team participate in a Four Nations Tournament over the international break.
On Saturday he was on the bench until the 87th minute, coming on as a late substitute for Arsenal teammate Isaac Hayden with England 2-1 down to Holland.
Sensationally he scored twice, in the 89th minute and deep into injury time to lead England to satisfying 3-2 victory.
Akpom could not conceal his delight after the game, telling The FA website:
“I’m absolutely buzzing, these are the kind of moments you live for.
“To score a goal for your country, at any level or at any time during the game is an amazing feeling – but to score two late goals to win the game is just the best.”
Manager Aidy Boothroyd, formerly of Watford, added afterwards: “Sometimes you make substitutions and they work, and sometimes they don’t. On this occasion Chuba came on and scored two great goals.”
The 19-year-old is proving a prolific performer at youth level. He has six goals in four games for Arsenal’s under-21s this season, and had six in 13 for England’s under-19 side.
