Speaking on Arsenal’s Twitch Channel (13/10/21 1:10PM), Ainsley Maitland-Niles has shared what he would be doing if he wasn’t a footballer, claiming that he’d still want to be involved in sport.
It’s one of the most cliché questions a footballer could be asked in an interview ‘if you weren’t a football player, what would your job be?’ The answers range from working in a supermarket to being a professional cricketer, but Maitland-Niles says he’d like to think he’s still be involved in sport.
The 24-year-old clearly wants to have a long-term future in football and he’s even done his coaching badges already, despite being so young.

Maitland-Niles was asked what his job would be if he wasn’t a footballer, to which he replied:
“I’d be doing something in sport, definitely. I have a few of my coaching badges already, I don’t know if I will end up going into coaching, but it’s food for thought and it’s there if I need to. But something in sport maybe, being around players and helping them mentally prepare for their next steps.”
The next Arteta?
Of course, it’s incredibly early to be making any predictions about Maitland-Niles career after football, but the fact he’s already done his coaching badges bodes well for his future.
The 24-year-old seems to be a real student of the game and if he continues to learn more about that side of football, he could be a great coach one day.
Arsenal have a former player in charge right now with Mikel Arteta, but it seems as though we could be seeing Maitland-Niles in the dugout at the Emirates one day.
