Newcastle must act quickly to sign the England international.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given a clear indication that midfielder Jack Wilshere’s future could lie away from the north London club this season.
Wilshere is back at the club after spending last season on loan at Bournemouth, but is facing an uncertain future with his contract running out next summer.
The 25-year-old is way down the pecking order at the club, and Wenger has hinted that Wilshere might be allowed to leave again in a bid to secure a new deal.
“If he gets back to his best and wants to stay, we have to sit down later in the season,” said Wenger, as quoted by Express. “I don’t rule that out.
“I’m open to a loan move. We have honest conversations. I’m open to what is the best for him. He is at the stage of his career where he needs to play and I can’t guarantee him today that.”
Wenger’s comments should come as a timely boost for Newcastle who are one of the clubs reported to have shown an interest in the 34-capped England international.
The Telegraph reported last month that the Magpies are heavily interested, and are weighing up a move for the Arsenal midfielder.
Now is the perfect time for the Magpies to jump in quickly ahead of other potential suitors – West Ham, Crystal Palace and Swansea City – and secure his signature on a temporary basis.
Newcastle can provide him regular game time, while Rafael Benitez will be looking to get the best out of Wilshere.
The Arsenal midfielder is a top-class player and all he needs is to remain injury free and play with confidence. Getting him on loan is a risk-free transfer, but the deal could turn into a masterstroke if Wilshere regains his old form.
