Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hasn’t ruled Martin Odegaard out of this weekend’s trip to Leicester City despite missing the clash with Leeds United.
Odegaard, who joined Arsenal in a £30million, £85,000-a-week deal in August, was benched against Aston Villa last Friday due to injury.
The Norwegian did come off the bench in the end, but then missed the Carabao Cup win over Leeds on Tuesday night.
That left Arsenal fans wondering whether Odegaard could miss this weekend’s game at Leicester as his injury battles continue.
Arteta has now told Football.London that Odegaard and Tierney missed Tuesday’s game with ‘different injuries’.
Arteta added that both players wanted to play but didn’t feel fit enough to play, and may have a chance to return against Leicester.
“They were both out with two different injuries. They tried yesterday but they didn’t feel great,” said Arteta. “They wanted to be involved but they weren’t good enough on the day. Hopefully they can be better and be available against Leicester,” he added.
Odegaard may struggle to get back into Arsenal side
Odegaard was really flat against both Brighton and Crystal Palace, and his enforced absence has come at a bad time.
Alexandre Lacazette starred up top with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang against Villa and could now keep his place.
With Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka shining out wide, there may not be room for Odegaard to get straight back in following his injury.
