Arsenal could offload Nuno Tavares this summer and Marseille chief Pablo Longoria has visited London amid a strong interest in the left back.
The Gunners swooped to sign Tavares from Benfica last summer, viewing him as cover for Kieran Tierney at left back.
Tavares showed promise at first but struggled in the second half of the season, even being substituted twice by half time.
It became pretty clear that Tavares just wasn’t cut out for Premier League action at this stage in his development.
Kieran Tierney’s injury problems mean Arsenal need a second-choice left back they can depend on that may not be Tavares.

RMC Sport report that Marseille would like to sign Tavares this summer.
Tavares is thought to be high on Marseille’s list of potential signings as they seek a new left back.
It’s even claimed that Marseille president Pablo Longoria has visited London and whilst the reason was never explained, it’s suggest that it could well be for Tavares.
Marseille have great links to Arsenal after deals involving William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi last summer.
Marseille also signed another left back from Arsenal in January as Sead Kolasinac made the move to France.

That will give Marseille hope of a deal for Tavares, utilising those links to Arsenal to pull off a deal.
Marseille are seeking a loan deal with the idea of giving 22-year-old Tavares the regular first-team action he requires at this stage in his development.
Arsenal may well be open to such a deal, and they already appear to have a replacement in mind.
90Min claim that Arsenal have opened talks with Benfica – yes, Benfica again – to sign left back Alex Grimaldo with a £6million bid launched.
Tavares could be loaned to Marseille with Grimaldo coming in as new competition for Tierney, though just how Arsenal would juggle all three next summer remains to be seen.
