Arsenal are reportedly interested in Ruben Neves, and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s previous comments on the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder will be of interest to the Emirates Stadium faithful.

The Daily Mail has reported that Arsenal are planning to make a move for Neves this week.

The Wolves midfielder has reportedly told his teammates that he is willing to make the transfer to the Gunners.

This is not the first time that Neves has been linked with a move away.

The Portugal international midfielder was linked with Guardiola’s City in 2019.

At the time, as quoted on Football.London, the former Barcelona manager praised Neves, but he added that he was too expensive for City.

Football.London quoted Guardiola as saying about Neves: “He’s an excellent player, but there are many clubs in the world, many holding midfielders in the world, and most of them can play here.

“That’s not the point. Most of them are under contracts. A month ago, I started reading: ‘Ruben Neves, £100 million’. That is not going to happen, we are not going to pay £100 million for a holding midfielder.”

Neves is not going to cost £100 million now.

The Times have reported that Arsenal think that they can the former FC Porto star for €40 million (£34.42 million) this summer.

Thomas Partey is a brilliant footballer and is the main holding midfielder in the Arsenal team.

If Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to play two players in that role, then Neves would not be a bad choice.

The Portuguese has done well for Wolves since he joined the club in 2017, and at 24, he is at that age when he is ready to take the next step in his career.
