Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are willing to spend big to sign Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund, according to a report in Italy.

Arsenal and Newcastle United willing to pay £44m for Rasmus Hojlund

Tutto Atalanta have reported that both Arsenal and Newcastle are interested in signing Hojlund from Atalanta in the summer transfer window.

And both the Gunners and the Magpies are willing to spend as much as €50 million (£44 million) in transfer fees for the 20-year-old forward.

Dusan Vlahovic has been Arsenal and Newcastle’s main target this summer, but the two Premier League clubs are now moving away from the Serbia international striker and are focusing on Hojlund instead, according to the report.

HITC Verdict: Too expensive

In our view, Arsenal or Newcastle United should not pay £44 million for Rasmus Hojlund.

It is too expensive.

Yes, the Denmark international is a very good forward and has massive talent, but he is only 20.

For £44 million, Arsenal and Newcastle could get a more experienced striker who would be able to make an immediate impact.

The Dane has scored seven goals and given one assist in 1281 minutes of Serie A action for Atalanta so far this season.

Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini described Hojlund as a striker who is “just remarkable” and is “so quick” in TMW last month.
