Arsenal have now been offered the chance to sign Xavi Simons from PSV Eindhoven – a player who rejected Rangers in 2022.

It was the Mirror who revealed that Mikel Arteta has been given an opportunity to sign the Netherlands international, who has enjoyed a remarkable 2022/23 campaign so far.

There is – however – one potential stumbling block if Arsenal do decide to explore a move for Xavi Simons.

What’s the story?

Well, the Gunners are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer, with The Times claiming that Kieran Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe, Folarin Balogun, Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding could all be sold to fund new signings.

One of those arrivals could be Simons.

The 20-year-old has delivered consistently impressive displays for PSV Eindhoven this season after choosing to leave Paris Saint-Germain back in June 2022.

Simons has scored 19 goals and provided 12 assists in 46 appearances so far this term, with his efforts even earning him a call-up to the Netherlands World Cup squad under Louis van Gaal.

According to AS in Spain, Giovanni van Bronckhorst wanted to bring his fellow countryman to Rangers, although the talented attacking midfielder rejected a move to Ibrox in favour of PSV Eindhoven.

Arsenal could miss out on Xavi Simons

Despite being offered the chance to sign Simons, Arsenal could still miss out on the Dutchman.

The Mirror add that PSG have a buyback clause worth just £10m which they agreed when letting the Amsterdam-born wonderkid move to PSV Eindhoven last summer.

Of course, Simons has to agree to return to Paris should the French giants trigger that option, which gives Arsenal a lifeline.

However, should Simons be persuaded to move back to the Parc des Princes, the Gunners would not really have a leg to stand on in negotiations.

Nevertheless, if the PSV Eindhoven No.7 does end up in north London next season, Arsenal fans should be very excited – he has potential to become one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe.
