Arsenal will reportedly only sign cover for Gabriel Jesus if the right player becomes available in January, with the striker set to miss up to three months of action due to injury.

According to Goal, Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar will not rush into signing a new striker to replace the 25-year-old attacker unless an ideal and logical alternative is identified in the transfer market, with the Arsenal duo having full faith in Eddie Nketiah to perform in Jesus’ absence.

The attacker picked up a knee problem at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Brazil that has since resulted in Jesus having surgery and being ruled out for three months, with Nketiah set to lead the line for Arsenal in the coming months unless a transfer is made in January.

As per the report, Arsenal were looking to sign a wide-attacker in January, to begin with. And whilst there is pressure from fans to find a replacement for Jesus, Arteta and. Edu won’t rush into making a signing for the sake of it, much like what the duo did last January.

Pierre-Emerick Aubemaung departed Arsenal on deadline day and left the Gunners short of striking options, though the north London side were unable to sign a replacement, a decision that seemingly cost Arteta’s side a top-four spot at the end of the season.

However, whilst it appears that Arsenal haven’t learnt their lesson from last January, Jesus’ situation is much more different to Aubameyang’s, and the north London side are making a good decision in not panicking just yet about their lack of depth in the striker position.

Arsenal right to not panic buy despite long-term Jesus injury

Panic buying is often the cause for more problems than solutions for most clubs, and Arsenal are playing the right move in not falling for this trap despite Jesus being out until March at the latest, with Nketiah a solid option to lead the line for the Gunners.

Moreover, with Arsenal looking to sign a winger in January already, the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe could also fill in as strikers with Jesus out through injury, with Arteta and Edu making the smart move to not waste crucial funds on a short-term replacement.
