Arsenal defender Rob Holding is likely to leave the Emirates before the transfer window closes.

That is according to a report from CBS Sports.

It states that Rob Holding is expected to depart Arsenal as the north London club look to trim down their squad after making a host of signings this summer.

Mikel Arteta has brought David Raya, Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber to the Emirates during this transfer window.

As well as Holding, Nuno Tavares also looks set for an exit, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Nottingham Forest have submitted a proposal to sign the Portuguese full-back.

Rob Holding should leave Arsenal this summer

Holding could get game time at Arsenal this season. With Timber, who can play in central defence, now sidelined, Holding has the chance to become the Gunners’ third-choice centre-back.

And with Arteta’s men competing in the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup during this early part of the campaign, rotation is likely.

With William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White and Timber all at the club, though, it is hard to imagine the 27-year-old ever becoming an important player under Arteta.

With that in mind, now may be the time for Holding to leave the Emirates. Having been at the club since 2016, some people may be sad to see him go.

One of those individuals could be Arsenal legend Tony Adams, who told The Sun in April that he absolutely loves Holding.

However, it is probably what is best for the Englishman if he wants to become a regular and important player of a team.

All in all, Holding could prove to be useful for Arsenal now, but he could quickly find himself becoming surplus to requirements once Arteta has all of his defensive options available again. Therefore, he really should consider a switch this summer.
