Arsenal are now considering allowing Mohamed Elneny to leave the club in January with Saudi Arabian interest mounting.

Mohamed Elneny could leave Arsenal in the January transfer window after nearly eight years at the club.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that Arsenal could sell Elneny before he leaves for nothing.

Arsenal are expected to be in the hunt for a new midfielder in January amid Thomas Partey’s ongoing injury woes.

Whilst incoming names are being linked, we could actually see a departure from the Arsenal midfielder ranks.

Arsenal could offload Mohamed Elneny in January

TEAMtalk now report that Arsenal may sell midfielder Mohamed Elneny when the transfer window opens.

The 31-year-old joined Arsenal way back in 2016, arriving from Basel in the January transfer window.

The time for Elneny to leave may be coming though, as his contract expires at the end of the season.

It’s now suggested that Saudi Arabian clubs are interested and Arsenal may let him go for a small chunk of cash before he leaves for nothing.

The interested clubs are looking towards a January move, seemingly hoping to land a cut-price deal for the Egyptian.

Mikel Arteta would let Elneny leave with a heavy heart

Elneny has played just one minute of Premier League action this season, coming off the bench in the 90th minute against Sheffield United last month.

It’s clear that Elneny isn’t a key player at Arsenal, and in normal circumstances, we would suggest that losing a fringe player of this ilk isn’t a big deal.

Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Elneny though, and has previously called him Arsenal’s ‘glue player’, suggesting that he ‘brings everybody together’.

Arteta added that Arteta is ‘really important’ for the squad, even if he doesn’t play many games for Arsenal.

That situation isn’t going to go on forever though, and Elneny may now jump at the chance to play regularly in Saudi Arabia in 2024.

That would seemingly be a big miss for Arteta’s squad structure, and a departure would only increase Arsenal’s need for a midfield signing.
