Arsenal are set for an interesting summer transfer window

After winning the Premier League and falling just shy in the Champions League, the Gunners will be looking to build from a position of strength and kick on again this summer.

There are certainly areas of the squad Arsenal could look to improve – notably on the left wing.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal believe they could make a very exciting addition in that position this summer.

Arsenal believe they’re in pole position for Morgan Rogers

Arsenal reportedly believe they would be favourites to sign Morgan Rogers this summer if Aston Villa decide to make him available.

Rogers is expected to cost around £80m if he leaves Villa Park, which shows how highly he is now rated after a standout season. That price would make him a major investment, but it is easy to see why Arsenal are interested.

According to Ben Jacobs, speaking on The Done Deal Show, Arsenal do feel £80m is steep for Rogers.

“Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea, and PSG, not Liverpool at this stage. Arsenal, I’m told, are a bit put off by the price. They’re looking for a starting left winger. Rogers is fine left wing or playing as number 10, but at this stage, Arsenal actually think 80 million and it could rise if there’s a bidding war is a little bit steep”

Morgan Rogers fits a clear need in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Arsenal are expected to add a left-sided attacker this summer, and Rogers offers more than just depth on the wing. He can play from the left, drift centrally and operate as a number 10, which makes him especially valuable in Arteta’s system.

That flexibility is important.

Arsenal have been linked with several left-sided options, but Rogers may suit them better than most because he would give them cover in multiple areas. He could compete with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, while also providing an option behind the striker.

The £80m price tag is high, but that is the market Arsenal are operating in, and, sadly, just the way of the world these days.

Villa have no reason to sell cheaply, especially to a Premier League rival. Rogers is young, improving and already proven at the highest level.

It remains to be seen if this deal can get done, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
