Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have been linked with Jesper Lindstrom.

According to Ekstra Bladet, Arsenal and Newcastle United are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Jesper Lindstrom in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal are reportedly already in contact with German club Frankfurt over a potential move for the 23-year-old Denmark international playmaker, who is valued at €35-40 million (£30-£34 million).

Lindstrom, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, started 22 matches and made five substitute appearances in the Bundesliga last season.

The youngster scored seven goals and provided two assists in those matches.

Lindstrom also scored one goal in seven UEFA Champions League appearances for Bundesliga club Frankfurt last season.

Newcastle United need Jesper Lindstrom more than Arsenal

In our opinion, Newcastle United need Jesper Lindstrom more than Arsenal do in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have enough attack-minded players on their books at the moment.

We do not think that manager Mikel Arteta needs to add another attacking player to his squad, even one who is as good as Lindstrom.

Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Emile Smith Rowe, Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson and Marquinhos are the attacking players available to Arteta at the moment.

Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun are the three strikers on the books of the Gunners now.

Newcastle will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, and a player of Lindstrom’s quality and experience in major European competitions will enhance the Magpies’ quality.

Lindstrom would be an upgrade on the likes of Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron and Ryan Fraser.

Newcastle are going places under owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and manager Eddie Howe.

The playmaker could find the prospect of playing for Newcastle hugely appealing.
