Arsenal wanted to sign Nicolas Seiwald but have been rejected by the midfielder who has dazzled Austria boss Ralf Rangnick.
The Gunners snapped up a new midfielder on deadline day in Jorginho.
Yet that doesn’t meant Arsenal’s pursuit of reinforcements in midfield is over.
Declan Rice continues to be heavily linked with a move across London but Arsenal were seemingly looking a little further afield too.
Bild journalist Christian Falk has told CaughtOffSide that Arsenal held ‘very concrete talks’ to sign Red Bull Salzburg ace Nicolas Seiwald.
However, Seiwald decided to reject Arsenal and has already decided to join RB Leipzig.
The Bundesliga club confirmed last week that Seiwald has signed for Leipzig and will join up with the club this summer.
That means Arsenal’s hopes are officially over and Seiwald can be forgotten about heading into this summer.

Arsenal target Nicolas Seiwald has been hailed by Ralf Rangnick
This looks to be yet another great deal for Leipzig as they once again manage to secure a top talent from sister club Red Bull Salzburg.
Seiwald is only 21 but has already made a huge impact for Salzburg as an all-action midfielder who never stops running.
You can understand why Mikel Arteta wanted the Austrian ace and he has one huge fan already in Ralf Rangnick.
The former Manchester United interim boss Rangnick has been quoted as saying that he thinks Seiwald is already an ‘extraordinary player’ so early into his career.
Rangnick has been heavily involved in the Red Bull setup so he has known of Seiwald for a while.
Rangnick new that Seiwald would make a big move away from Austria but he is heading to Germany rather than England.
“I’ve known the boy for three or four years, and it was really obvious he will play abroad. He is an extraordinary player for his age,” said Rangnick.
Missing out on a talent like Seiwald is a blow for Arsenal but you can be sure that Edu and Mikel Arteta have other targets in mind.
