Hakan Calhanoglu scored again this weekend. However it was not enough as they lost 3-2 at home to Mainz.
A name that has recently crocked up into the transfer columns and rumour chill of late has been Hamburg SV playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu.
The teenager has had something of a breakthrough campaign in 2013-14. He signed for the club last summer from Karlsruher but was immediately loaned back to the Baden-Wurttemberg side – as his 14 goals in 31 games helped them earn promotion from 3.Liga to the 2.Bundesliga.
Recently Arsenal were linked with a ‘concrete’ interest in the player – something which was later branded completely untrue by the players agent,
But you can understand why Arsenal were so heavily linked with the player – mainly because he has been dubbed the ‘next Mesut Ozil’.
Well he has been the shining light in a difficult season for Hamburg SV – and that rhetoric rang true today.
He again played very well for the German outfit, with Calhanoglu even opening the scoring for the side with a left-footed strike that gave the home side a 1-0 lead.
However things did not go well after that.
They soon went 2-1 down after goals from Shinji Okazaki and Nicolai Muller, before Tottenham cult hero bagged an equaliser in the 79th minute.
But Hamburg’s miserable season continued when Okazaki bagged a late winner to complete a three game losing streak for HSV.
