Morten Thorsby has been waxing lyrical about new Arsenal signing Martin Odegaard.

What’s the story?

Speaking to Sky Sports News (19/21, 4pm), the Norway international said he saw no limits to his teammate’s talents.

As well as labelling him a “great signing” for the Gunners, Thorsby applauded how far the 22-year-old has developed at such a young age.

Odegaard has completed his move to north London on a four-year deal with an option for an extra year.

Mikel Arteta pushed to complete a deal for the attacking midfielder, which played a crucial part in clinching the transfer, according to ABC.

Thorsby said: “(Odegaard) is an exceptional player and a great signing for Arsenal. He’s still young and has come such a long way.

“I don’t see any limits to his talent. He’s a very serious player who wants to become better.”

Our View: Odegaard needs to prove his talent at Arsenal

Despite praise from Thorsby, Odegaard needs to prove his talent to Arsenal – and Arteta in particular.

The midfielder can be easily replaced if he fails to live up to expectations, with the north Londoners incredibly stacked in attack.

Alexandre Lacazette, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka can also play in the number 10 role.

Meanwhile, Odegaard’s lack of versatility also makes him susceptible to spending time on the bench.

There have been times in his career when the midfielder has played on the right-wing. But, with the talents of Saka, Nicolas Pepe and even Gabriel Martinelli, it would be a shock to see him play there.

Proving himself is one of Odegaard’s biggest missions this campaign.

Getting dumped by the club where he wanted to make the grade should leave a fire in the ace’s belly. He needs to show off his talent regardless of praise.
