Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:38pm, January 23, 2023) that Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko was “world class” against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.
Arsenal got the better of Manchester United 3-2 at home in the Premier League this past Sunday.
Zinchenko, who cost Arsenal £30 million in transfer fees (Sky Sports) when they signed him from defending champions Manchester City in the summer of 2022, started the match at left-back.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher was analysing Arsenal’s performance against the Red Devils on Monday Night Football on the Sky Sports Premier League channel.
And he noted that the 26-year-old, who can also operate as a midfielder, was playing a free role.
Jamie Carragher on Oleksandr Zinchenko for Arsenal v Manchester United
Carragher said about Zinchenko: “I think it’s fair to describe his role as a free role. He has got a free role at left-back.”
The pundit added: “The actual football from Arsenal through midfield and the movement and the role of Zinchenko was absolutely world class.”

Important player for the Gunners
In our view, Oleksandr Zinchenko is one of the best and most important players for Arsenal.
The Ukraine international is a very versatile player who can operate as a left-back or in midfield.
While Kieran Tierney is a very good marauding left-back, Zinchenko moves into midfield and then drops back into left-back when needed.
This makes Arsenal’s intricate play much better and more cohesive.
Zinchenko has made 11 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Arsenal so far tis season, providing one assist in the process.
