Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are confident of beating Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United to the signing of Real Madrid attacking midfielder Eden Hazard in the summer transfer window, according to Defensa Central.
The report in the Spanish news outlet has claimed that both Arsenal and Newcastle want to sign the former Chelsea star, who can also operate as a winger.
Arsenal reportedly believe that Martin Odegaard’s strong relationship with Hazard will convince the 31-year-old Belgium international to move to the Emirates Stadium.
Hazard also enjoyed his time in London when he was playing for Chelsea, and that, according to the report, could sway him towards Arsenal.
Arsenal over Newcastle United for Eden Hazard
In our opinion, Hazard is likely to prefer Arsenal to Newcastle if he leaves Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are progressing under manager Arteta and could end up in the Premier League top four this season.

Hazard is used to playing for top clubs who compete for trophies and honours, and he could find a move to Arsenal appealing, especially if the Gunners show him how they plan to get back to winning – or at least seriously challenging – for the Premier League title.
However, there could be one potential problem.
Hazard earns £416,000 per week (The Sun) at Madrid at the moment.
Would it be not a risk for Arsenal to pay a 31-year-old that much salary, especially one who has had injury problems for a while?
