Arsenal and Newcastle United want Alejandro Balde but Barcelona are now confident of securing a new contract for the left back.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claim that Barcelona are moving towards a new deal for their exciting teenager.

Romano claims that talks over a new contract for Balde are at the ‘final stages’, with the left back likely to stay alongside Inaki Pena.

Romano adds that Balde’s new contract is a ‘full priority’ for Barcelona as they view him as a key player both now and for the future.

Balde, 19, has come up through the Barcelona ranks since joining from Espanyol back in 2011.

Now with 27 first-team appearances to his name, Balde looks set to shine for years to come – and the new deal may leave Arsenal and Newcastle disappointed.

Arsenal and Newcastle are keen on Alejandro Balde

Catalan newspaper SPORT reported earlier this month that Arsenal and Newcastle are both interested in signing Balde.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a former Barcelona player himself and may have one eye on the talents at the Camp Nou.

Arsenal already have a star left back in Oleksandr Zinchenko but there are question marks over the future of Kieran Tierney.

If Tierney moves on, maybe Arsenal would be primed and ready to make a move for Balde.

Newcastle brought in two left backs last year as Dan Burn and Matt Targett arrived, with both players featuring in that role.

Maybe Newcastle fancy adding a long-term left back for their exciting project, and Balde would fit the bill perfectly.

The teenager is set for a huge career and Barcelona are now moving to make sure that future is in Catalunya rather than North London or the North East.
