Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (8:53pm, May 16, 2022) that Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin ran Arsenal right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu “ragged” at St. James’ Park.

The former Liverpool star made the comments about Arsenal right-back Tomiyasu and Newcastle winger Saint-Maximin during the half-time analysis on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports Premier League.

Japan international Tomiyasu started at right-back, and French winger Saint-Maximin continuously got the better of him.

The 23-year-old, who can also operate as a right-back, had to be substituted in the 39th minute.

Carragher said on Sky Sports Premier League (8:53pm, May 16, 2022): “This has been an absolute mismatch. I think he (Tomiyasu) has gone off with an injury, but Saint-Maximin has been absolutely fantastic and has ran him absolute ragged.”

Disappointing

Tomiyasu is one of the best players at Arsenal and is a very reliable defender, but the Japan international really struggled against Saint-Maximin during the time he was on the pitch at St.James’ Park.

Saint-Maximin was on fire against Arsenal and played really well.

It was a disappointing result for Arsenal, and the loss to Newcastle means that North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have the advantage in the race for the Premier League top four.

Arsenal were really poor against Newcastle tonight, just as they were against Tottenham in the North London last week.
