Ian Wright believes that Mesut Ozil is finished at Arsenal.
The former Germany international is fit and training with his team-mates at London Colney, but Gunners boss Mikel Arteta shows no desire to bring him back.
Arsenal lost 1-0 away to Aston Villa on Tuesday night and despite Arteta ringing the changes, Ozil was again omitted from the 20-man squad.
The 31-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball for the North Londoners since football resumed in June.
And Arsenal icon Wright has told Premier League Productions, via The Metro, that the former Real Madrid maestro is ‘gone’.
He said: “I think that he’s gone. It’s all about attitude. The thing is when you look at Dani Ceballos he had an attitude problem, Mikel turned him round and now he’s in the team.
“Arsenal need him [Ozil] of course but I believe that he’s somebody that’s gone from Arsenal whether he stays or Mikel gets rid of him, we’re not going to see much of him.”
Wright is probably correct here, if we’re honest.
Ozil has had more get-out-of-jail cards than most under Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery, but Arteta is clearly taking a much firmer approach and the World Cup winner has it all to do.
The fact that he isn’t even making the squad anymore speaks volumes for how little plan Arteta has for him and with one year left on his contract, this finally seems like the end of Ozil, who was the club’s record signing for £42.5 million in 2013.
