National media suggest Arsenal target is so fast his teammates are struggling to keep up

Arsenal want Mykhaylo Mudryk and the Ukrainian media have offered a mixed view on his performance against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The Gunners were in the market for a new winger before the summer transfer deadline.

Nicolas Pepe was loaned to Nice and Arsenal would have loved to bring in another wide man to support him.

A number of names were linked with that role and arguably the most exciting was Shakhtar Donetsk sensation Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Fabrizio Romano reported on The Here We Go Podcast that Arsenal had asked for information about a potential deal for Mudryk.

No deal was done but The Athletic claim that Arsenal have received glowing reports about Mudryk and could move for him down the line.

Arsenal then scouted Mudryk against Real Madrid last week according to Defensa Central and may well have watched him again on Tuesday.

Mudryk started as Shakhtar took on Real in the Champions League and it looked like the Ukrainians would spring a surprise.

Oleksandr Zubkov fired Shakhtar into the lead and a 1-0 win was on the cards until Antonio Rudiger’s injury-time equaliser.

Mudryk featured down the Shakhtar left and whilst he didn’t contribute goals or assists, he still posed a real threat.

Football.ua in Ukraine gave Mudryk a 6.5 rating out of 10, behind just two other Shakhtar teammates.

They noted that Mudryk is the fastest player in Urkaine right now and some of his teammates actually struggled to keep up with him against Real.

A dangerous counter-attacking threat, Mudryk was allegedly too focused on himself last night and his lack of unselfishness at times noticeable.

That’s something for Arsenal to consider.

Mudryk has been devastating on the break for Shakhtar in Champions League games where they don’t have a lot of the ball.

The 21-year-old has yet to score a goal in the league this season though with defences trying to sit deep and nullify the winger.

Mudryk will need to add to his game and Arsenal will need to decide whether they can carve out enough counter-attack opportunities for Mudryk to thrive in.
