Arsenal wanted Mykhaylo Mudryk before the transfer deadline but one former Ukrainian international can’t believe his price tag.
The Gunners were in the market for another winger before the transfer deadline.
Nicolas Pepe’s loan move to Nice has left Arsenal a little short of cover out wide and Edu had to look into signing a replacement.
That didn’t happen, but with Pepe unlikely to have a route back to first-team action at Arsenal, a 2023 signing of a winger is surely in Edu’s plans.
Arsenal wanted Mykhaylo Mudryk
One of the key names linked before the deadline was Shakhtar Donetsk talent Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Fabrizio Romano reported last week that Arsenal had made contact over a potential deal to bring Mudryk to North London.
No deal materialised, but The Athletic suggest that Arsenal have received glowing reports about Mudryk’s talent and character.
That means a 2023 move may be on the cards for Arsenal and Mudryk, but the price tag may be a concern.
Arsenal were understood to be at least £10million away from Shakhtar’s asking price during initial talks, with the Ukrainian side seeking at least £25million plus add-ons, taking the deal north of £30million.
That may not sound all that bad, but one former Ukraine star has shared his dismay at the asking price.
Yevhen Levchenko, formerly of Vitesse Arnhem and Groningen alongside other clubs, has taken to Twitter to share his view.
Levchenko suggested that whilst he loves Mudryk as a player, he cannot believe that Shakhtar would value Mudryk at €30million (£26million).
Levchenko even noted a €50million (£43million) demand, which appears to have emerged from somewhere in Ukraine.
The former Ukraine ace suggested that clubs should evaluate their talent more wisely, as sticking these price tags on players is taking away opportunities.
Levchenko seemingly fears that Shakhtar will price Mudryk out of a big move to Arsenal, and feels that this is simply bad news for Ukrainian football.
