Arsenal want Mykhaylo Mudryk and a potential deal for the Shakhtar Donetsk winger is being compared to Fred joining Manchester United.

Mudryk has been heavily linked with Arsenal for months now, even going back to the final stages of the summer transfer window.

Yet it feels like this move is really ramping up ahead of the January window.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein – one of the top-tier sources in English football – claims that many in the game expect Arsenal to get their man.

Mudryk is allegedly ‘determined’ to make the move to North London and wants it to happen in January.

The problem is that Shakhtar are claiming that Mudryk is worth €100million (£86million), comparing him to Antony or Jack Grealish.

Arsenal have no intention of paying that kind of money and would probably like to strike a deal worth half that amount.

Shakhtar want ‘crazy money’ for Arsenal target Mudryk

There isn’t really a precedent set for players leaving Ukraine in deals worth around £80million.

However, Shakhtar have pulled off some very large sales in years gone by.

Their biggest sale to date is Fred’s move to Manchester United back in 2018.

The Brazilian midfielder joined United in a huge deal worth £52million rising to over £61million.

If Shakhtar demanded that kind of money for Mudryk, then maybe Arsenal would be more willing to meet their demands.

Shakhtar instead seemingly believe that Mudryk is more valuable than Fred and are sticking to an astronomical price.

Ukrainian reporter Viktor Vatsko has now been quoted by Football24 in Ukraine as saying that Shakhtar want ‘crazy money’ for Mudryk.

Vatsko noted that it’s easy for people to say that Shakhtar should allow Mudryk to go and follow his dream in the Premier League.

Yet Shakhtar have a right to demand huge money as striking deals like the one that saw Fred leave for Old Trafford simply don’t come along that often for the Ukrainian club.

“It’s easy for us to do the destinies of great football players, because we don’t have the pressure of responsibility,” said Vatsko. “And here we’re talking about the opportunity to earn crazy money for the club by Ukrainian standards. Fred was sold to Manchester United for 60 million euros. Once in how many years does this kind of Fred deal happen? Once for three, five, ten,” he added.
