He mentioned Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, who had played in the U-21s before establishing himself in the senior squad.
Pearce told the Daily Express: ‘The odd one was injury, but apathy played a big part – the Oxlade-Chamberlains of this world, the Phil Joneses, because they didn’t want to come. Once they go through the ivory towers of the seniors they don’t want to play with the U21s’
Arsenal pair Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil were both on target for Germany last night as they beat the Faroe Islands 3-0 to edge closer to securing their place at next summer’s World Cup in Brazil. Mertesacker pounced on a flick on from a corner before Mesut Özil converted a second half penalty.
He shouldn’t be out for long, with an exact diagnosis unavailable, but it is expected to keep him out of the weekend’s trip to Sunderland.
The Gunners are in need of a striker after failing to secure one during the transfer window. Olivier Giroud is currently their only fit experience striker at the club after Lukas Podolski suffered a torn hamstring and Yaya Sanogo returned from international duty with a back strain.
