Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta made the decision to let Konstantinos Mavropanos leave the club – and his reasoning may now be backfiring.
Mavropanos, 23, was snapped up by Sven Mislintat having show potential with PAS Giannina in his native Greece.
The defender has only played eight times for Arsenal, and is now in the second year of a loan spell with Stuttgart.
The 23-year-old is shining in Germany, showing his goal threat with three goals in nine Bundesliga games this season.
It’s now claimed by Football.London that Arsenal boss Arteta had doubts over how Mavropanos passes out from the back.
However, the report notes that Mavropanos showed impressive passing statistics on loan at Stuttgart last season.
Last season, Mavropanos averaged 46 passes per game on 79% success rate.
The Greek ace has improved in both categories this season, boasting almost 58 passes per game with more than 81% success rate.
As a right-sided centre back, Mavropanos is vital to the build-up play under Pellegrino Matarazzo, proving himself as a ball-playing defender despite Arteta’s thoughts.
Mavropanos is proving Arteta wrong in terms of his ability to pass out from the back, and Stuttgart will be delighted.
Mislintat, now in charge of transfers at Stuttgart, is obligated to sign Mavropanos for just £2.5million next summer, and that could be a bargain with the German media stunned by Arsenal’s decision to let him go so cheap.
