Arsenal want a new midfielder and are ready to spend in the January transfer window in order to add one to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The Gunners have enjoyed an almost perfect start to the Premier League season.

Seven wins in eight games to start the campaign is incredible stuff for Arsenal, especially having missed out on the top four at the end of last season.

Fans are in high spirits after Saturday’s 3-1 win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal now look to be a solid shout for a top four finish.

Arsenal want a new midfielder

Challenging Manchester City still feels a little ambitious, but Arsenal can feel confident of Champions League football next season.

Arsenal may still need a January signing or two in order to get over the line and two positions stand out.

Another winger would be ideal after Nicolas Pepe was loaned to Nice and not replaced, with Shakhtar Donetsk ace Mykhaylo Mudryk linked.

The other position is another midfielder with Mikel Arteta seeking more depth and competition in his engine room.

The Daily Mail now claim that Arsenal ‘intend to spend again’ in January after funding deals for Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus over the summer.

The key position Arsenal are planning to strengthen is central midfield and that’s where Arsenal could spend their cash.

This lines up with reports from The Sun last week, who claimed that Arsenal would be launching a new move for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz in January.

Arsenal failed with offers worth £20million, £23million and £25million on deadline day as Villa stood firm on Douglas Luiz.

The Brazilian is out of contract at the end of the season though and Arsenal allegedly believe £15million will be enough to get a January deal done with Douglas Luiz allegedly keen to make the move.

Douglas Luiz would provide adequate cover and competition for Thomas Partey in Arsenal’s midfield and he could be the man for Edu and Arteta come January.
