The evidence of recent games suggests the star is out-of-form and running on empty.
Surely there is no doubting Aaron Ramsey’s talent.
He would not be captain of Wales and playing for a club like Arsenal at the age of 21 if he did not merit it.
But his performances since the turn of the year have marked a dip in his form and it appears as though he needs to be taken out of the firing line.
The two dismal games away to Milan and Sunderland he was particularly ineffective, although he does not deserve to be singled out.
Against Sunderland he even picked up a knock early on, and this may have contributed to his poor showing.
Yet this is only more reason why he should be given a rest.
His body language showed he looked beaten even in the opening 15 minutes of the match.
After suffering his career-threatening leg break in February 2010, he fought his way back and even struck a winning goal in a 1-0 win over Manchester United at the end of last season.
So this year was supposed to be the year where he stepped up and re-announced his talent to the world.
It hasn’t worked out like that.
With the departure of Cesc Fabregas and injury to Jack Wilshere he has been given plenty of chances in the Arsenal first team, but it seems that the responsibility is becoming too much.
He is featuring each weekend, and who knows how much of a strain that has put on his injury.
Ramsey does appear to have a great shot of making it at Arsenal, and he along with Jack Wilshere will hope to strike up a midfield partnership which could last 10 years or more.
But right now his manager must realise that he deserves a break, because his poor form is not helping the team.
Wenger should consider dropping him from the upcoming games against Milan and Tottenham, even if a lack of other options and injuries may leave him little choice.
