According to Goal, Arsenal have enquired about a move for Diego Costa.

Costa is now a free agent after being released by Atletico Mineiro, and it seems as though a remarkable return to London could be on the cards.

There are cases to be made on both sides about whether or not Costa would be a good signing. On one hand, he’s a proven goalscorer at this level – netting 52 Premier League goals in 89 appearances for Chelsea, but on the other hand, he’s a 33-year-old who has been released by two clubs in as many years.

Regardless of whether or not you believe Costa would be a good addition to this Arsenal squad, one thing is for sure, his arrival would spice up the north London derby.

Indeed, if you know anything about Costa, you’re well aware of how fiery of a character he is.

Arsenal fans ought to know better than anyone just how much of a delinquent Costa can be on the pitch. He got Gabriel Paulista famously sent off back in 2015, and he even got a violent conduct charge for his antics in that match.

Costa, and his famously short fuse, would make the north London derby a very fiery affair. However, when you factor in his rivalry with Antonio Conte, it has to be said that there could be fireworks if Costa heads to the Emirates.

In case you have forgotten, Conte and Costa didn’t quite get on at Chelsea. The Italian managed to get the best out of the Spaniard in his first season at the club, but after sending him a text message telling him he was no longer needed, their relationship deteriorated.

Costa has been open about the pair’s differences while he also poked fun at the Italian after he was sacked by Chelsea.

Just imagine how motivated Costa would be to get one over Conte if he came up against him in a north London derby, and imagine how he would celebrate if he managed to bag for Arsenal against Conte’s Spurs.

Whether or not Costa would be a good signing is a debate for another day, but his arrival at Arsenal would certainly add an extra dynamic to the north London derby.
