Arsenal’s winger conundrum remains unsolved after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk over the weekend.

The Ukrainian winger headed to Chelsea rather than Arsenal after a lengthy transfer battle, and now, Arsenal need to regroup and figure out their next steps.

The north London club have just a fortnight to find their Mudryk alternative, and perhaps the solution to their problems lies with Edu and his lengthy contact book.

The Brazilian is well-connected in the world of football, and there’s one player we think the Gunners have a great chance of signing this month after Edu had a meeting in London a couple of weeks ago.

Indeed, the Gunners’ Sporting Director met up with Sporting CP’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, in London earlier this month, and while we don’t know the details of such meeting, there’s reason to believe that a move for Marcus Edwards could have been discussed.

Think about it, Arsenal are in the market for a winger, Edwards is extremely talented – he’s been compared to Lionel Messi in the past, and he has links to north London having come through at Tottenham Hotspur.

Of course, it’s fair to assume that Edwards joining Arsenal is unrealistic due to his affiliation with Tottenham, but, actually, that may not be the case.

A report from GiveMeSport stated a couple of years ago that Edwards would actually prefer a Premier League return with Arsenal rather than with Spurs after bridges were seemingly burnt with the Lilywhites after his initial release.

This could be a case of putting two and two together and making five, but given that Edwards is keen to join Arsenal, the fact that the Gunners need a winger and that Edu has met with Viana recently, this deal could just have a chance of happening.

This may be one to keep an eye on as we head towards the end of the transfer window.
