Arsenal appear to be closing in on the signing of New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner, with personal terms already discussed.
That’s according to the The Guardian, who report that Arsenal have already discussed personal terms with Turner in the hope of thrashing out a deal.
The early signs are that those terms won’t be a problem, with Arsenal now seemingly confident of getting a deal done quickly.
Arsenal still need to agree a fee for Turner, but the Gunners are closing in on the American shot-stopper.
This would then clear the way for German ace Bernd Leno to leave Arsenal this month amid links to Newcastle United.
Leno has lost his place in the Arsenal side to Aaron Ramsdale this season, and has now entered the final 18 months of his contract.
Arsenal may now look to cash in on Leno and bring in Turner to play as the main backup behind Ramsdale.
Turner, 27, is something of a late bloomer and only really landed top-tier first-team football in the United States back in 2018.
Voted the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in November, Turner is coming off the back of a stunning personal season.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Turner has a good frame for a goalkeeper and his shot-stopping ability has been hailed – even if he may need some work with the ball at his feet.
Revolution goalkeeper coach Kevin Hitchcock turned out for Chelsea in the Premier League and knows what it takes to be a top-flight goalkeeper in England.
Hitchcock indicated to the Boston Herald that he thinks Turner is just as good as any Premier League goalkeeper right now.
Hitchcock added that Turner is a ‘fantastic’ pupil, heaping praise on the goalkeeper after a superb season.
Now ready for a move to Europe, Turner could be heading to Arsenal – just as long as a fee can be sorted out.
