Martinez and Virginia were Gunners teammates, and now the latter has moved on loan to the Royals, where the former spent the second half of last term.
Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has sent a Twitter message to Everton counterpart Joao Virginia following the latter’s loan move to Reading.
Virginia left the Emirates Stadium for Goodison Park in the summer of 2018 and helped the Toffees’ Under-23s side win the double – the Premier League 2 title and the Premier League Cup – in his debut season at the club.
Martinez, who has spent most of his career at Arsenal, had a loan spell at the Madejski Stadium in the second half of last season, making 18 appearances and keeping five clean sheets according to Transfermarkt.
The Argentina stopper took to Twitter with a Spanish reply to Virginia’s first message in Reading colours, which translates roughly as “good luck pro, great club, enjoy your challenge”:
Prior to joining Everton, Virginia – who began his career with Benfica – helped Portugal to victory in the 2018 European Under-19 Championship, and was also in the Selecao squad for the 2016 Olympics football tournament in Rio de Janeiro.
Reading, who are managed by fellow Portuguese Jose Manuel Gomes, will be looking to improve upon a 20th place finish last season in the Championship and are preparing for a seventh successive campaign in the English second tier.
