Arsenal have landed Marquinhos from Sao Paulo and Tim Vickery has now compared him to former Bayern Munich ace Douglas Costa.

The Gunners are expected to make a number of big signings this summer and two could be on the cards very soon.

Porto playmaker Fabio Vieira is on his way to North London whilst Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus could follow in the near future.

It’s almost easy to forget that Arsenal have actually already made a signing with Brazilian teenager Marquinhos joining from Sao Paulo.

Arsenal have landed Marquinhos

After plenty of speculation over in Brazil, Marquinhos completed his move to Arsenal last week.

The Gunners have paid just €3.5million (£3million) to sign Marquinhos in what appears to be an absolute bargain of a deal.

The fee has left pundits in Brazil furious, with a firm belief that Marquinhos has a big future ahead of him.

Edu was more than happy to swoop in and take Marquinhos to Arsenal, no doubt hoping that the versatile attacker can be another Gabriel Martinelli.

Marquinhos, 19, has already racked up 41 appearances for Sao Paulo, notching four goals and three assists in the process.

Capable of playing on either flank, Marquinhos is certainly one for the future and Arsenal will hope they have a gem on their hands.

South American football expert Tim Vickery has now offered his view to Sky Sports, suggesting that Marquinhos reminds him of Douglas Costa.

Costa was a star for Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayern Munich and Juventus, so if Arsenal have got themselves another version of him, Edu will have done well.

Edu noted that Marquinhos is raw and has had injury troubles but is backing Edu’s judgment of Brazilian talents.

“They bought him for the future, they’ve given themselves a margin for error there,” said Vickery. “He made a huge impression at Sao Paulo last season. He reminds me of Douglas Costa, versatile, mobile and can operate across the front line.”

“The last few months have been frustrating for him through injury. He doesn’t have a lot behind him. If you look at what Edu has done, the older players haven’t worked with Willian and David Luiz, but Gabriel has been a revelation and Gabriel Martinelli is another good piece of business,” he added.
