Arsenal are pushing for Gabriel Jesus but boss Mikel Arteta may now need to alter his summer transfer plans after missing out on the top four.

The Gunners looked to be in the box seat for Champions League qualification but squandered the opportunity.

Defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United allowed Spurs to swoop in and take fourth place.

That leaves Arsenal heading into the Europa League instead, severely hampering their spending and pulling powers.

Mikel Arteta may subsequently have to scale back his plans for spending this summer.

Arsenal are pushing for Gabriel Jesus

The Sun report that Arteta initially targeted seven new signings this summer to re-tool the Arsenal squad.

Yet it’s now suggested that Arsenal may only be able to bring in three new signings this summer.

Arteta is having to re-think after missing out on the Cham;pions League but only bringing in three signings may leave Arsenal short again next season.

It’s a difficult balancing act for Arteta and Edu, who want to kick on after missing out on the Champions League but may not have the cash for it.

The report does though suggest that Arsenal are ramping up their move to sign Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Jesus and the Gunners think that a £40million deal will secure the striker.

Bitter rivals Tottenham are also keen on Jesus but Arsenal seemingly believe the Brazilian will be joining them instead.

Jesus already knows Arteta and Edu, so that could just push Arsenal into pole position for the striker hailed as ‘fantastic’ by Pep Guardiola.

Jesus, 25, is out of contract in 2023 and City are likely to sell this summer before he leaves for nothing.

The versatile forward racked up eight goals and eight assists in 28 Premier League games this past season and could lead Arsenal’s attack.

Eddie Nketiah may now be kept to support Jesus, with Arteta looking to take his attack forward – even if means ignoring other positions.
