Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale has applauded out-on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on Twitter after his penalty save to deny Declan Rice during Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 win over West Ham.

Henderson, 25, has come in for criticism following his comments about his recent lack of game time at Manchester United. It looked to have backfired on him, after making a mistake during the 2-0 loss to Newcastle United.

He allowed Fabian Schar’s speculative effort to fly past him. However, on Sunday, he was sensational. He made a number of fantastic saves, including a header from Tomas Soucek – before denying Rice from the penalty spot.

Not only did he save the penalty, but he clung onto it to save the West Ham captain’s spot kick. A superb save and performance to give Forest a historic win – and Ramsdale put aside Arsenal, United rivalry to praise him on Twitter.

Henderson bounced back from the criticism, his Manchester United axe and the mistake against Newcastle to shine. It was a performance that looked like he had a point to prove. Clear to see in his celebration after saving the penalty.

It comes on the same weekend that David De Gea made a howler of a mistake as Brentford beat Henderson’s parent club 4-0 in London. De Gea allowed a tame Josh DaSilva shot trickle past him, and then a poor pass for the second.

Henderson has the platform to show Manchester United and De Gea that he deserves – or deserved – to be United’s no.1. On Sunday, he did just that. A wonderful clean sheet to give Forest fans a day that will live long in the memory.
