Aston Villa were linked with Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy back in 2016.
Villa appear to be targeting experienced Premier League players this summer, with Steve Bruce prepared to offer big wages to improve the quality of his squad.
And the signing of Debuchy would be another eye-catching addition for Bruce’s side.

Arsenal are keen to offload the French full-back, who they feel has offered them all he can, and are willing to allow him to leave for free.
Debuchy is now 31, and there are question marks over whether he can perform for a side chasing a top four place in the top flight.
However, the former Newcastle man would surely be one of the best right-backs in the Championship, if Villa managed to snap him up.
Although Villa already have James Bree in their squad, the youngster is still relatively inexperienced at Championship level, and having Debuchy to learn off could majorly benefit his development.
And with Debuchy available for no fee, he would make a very smart addition for Bruce’s side.
