Alan Smith urged Arsenal on Sky Sports Premier League Tuesday evening to ‘make a statement’ and follow Chelsea and Manchester City’s steps by leaving the European Super League.
Only 48 hours ago, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham, were sticking their chests out ready to take part in a controversial breakaway league.
Well, as the news regarding the ESL takes a turn every half an hour, with Manchester City confirming that they will no longer take part in it and Chelsea also planning to go down the same path.
Former Arsenal striker, Smith, wants those in the North London boardroom to do the same and get out of the mess they find themselves in.
“I certainly would, I would love to see them do that tonight,” said Smith. “I don’t think the breakaway league is viable now anyway.
“It was on the cusp of things, in the first place, without Bayern Munich, PSG and Dortmund. Now Chelsea and Manchester City, we hear. Who else is going to fall away tonight?
“I would love to see Arsenal make a statement. What gets me is who thought this was a good idea in the first place?”

Heads are starting to roll, key figures are starting to hand in their resignations and this ESL plan is turning into an utter disaster.
Even rock-bottom, Sheffield United, have made less of a mess in 2021, but those in the boardrooms of the 12 clubs that wanted to breakaway are now beginning to realise the chaos they have caused.
Football will always be for the working class. Sky may have let the monster through the door in 1992 by allowing so much money to be pumped into the game, but this recent plan, was a step too far.
