Arsenal want Lisandro Martinez and are really strongly pushing to bring the Ajax defender to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Gunners have added Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira to Mikel Arteta’s squad but still need more additions this summer.

A striker is the top priority but Arsenal seemingly want another left-sided defender.

The idea would be for a player to come and offer cover for Gabriel Magalhaes at left-sided centre back as well as for Kieran Tierney at left back.

Not many names have emerged for that role but Arsenal do fancy Ajax star Martinez.

Arsenal want Lisandro Martinez

The Athletic reported last week that Arsenal had offered €30million (£26million) to sign Martinez but Ajax said no.

The Amsterdam giants are holding out for a higher fee and Arsenal’s interest has been questioned this week.

De Telegraaf claimed that there was no Arsenal bid at all and that the Gunners backed away when they found out Ajax’s seemingly lofty asking price.

Arsenal fans may be worried that Martinez won’t be signing this summer, especially with so much rival interest.

90Min claim that Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also keen on signing Martinez this summer.

That means Arsenal risk missing out on Martinez if they’re not careful, but David Ornstein has reassured fans of the Gunners’ interest.

Ornstein is one of the most reliable sources out there, especially on Arsenal, and he has made it clear that the Gunners really want Martinez.

“Arsenal are really strongly in for him, so we’ll see how that develops, they may face some competition,” said Ornstein on The Athletic’s YouTube channel.

Arsenal fans will be relieved that the Dutch reports seem to be off the mark, and that Edu will continue to chase a deal for Martinez.

In terms of his positional flexibility, Martinez looks absolutely perfect for Arsenal’s needs – and fending off Tottenham would make a move even sweeter.
