Arsenal looked into signing Leroy Sane last summer and it sounds like Bayern Munich aren’t too impressed with the winger’s form right now.

The Gunners were looking to sign a winger over the summer but were left a little frustrated.

Raphinha chose a move to Barcelona over joining Arsenal and the Gunners ended the summer window without signing another winger.

Arsenal have now snapped up Leandro Trossard but there may be scope for another winger to arrive this summer.

One of the other names Arsenal considered last summer was Leroy Sane.

Mikel Arteta worked with Sane at Manchester City and there were rumours of him being a top target – even ahead of Raphinha.

Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that Arsenal had been looking at Bayern wide man Sane.

“I’ve actually heard more rumblings from Arsenal that this was a name being considered at the beginning of the window, but then they turned their attentions to Raphinha,” said Jacobs.

That interest went nowhere last summer but there could be scope this time around…

Bayern Munich don’t seem convinced by Arsenal target Leroy Sane

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg now reports that Bayern are expecting more out of both Sane and teammate Serge Gnabry.

Plettenberg notes that there are no discussions of sales taking place just yet but almost nobody is safe at Bayern as they consider exits.

Sane and Gnabry are understood to be high earners at Bayern and if they don’t prove their worth, they could be available.

Sane turns 28 this summer and you could argue that he hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential.

The German winger was such a threat for City, possessing blistering pace and a superb left foot.

A major injury set Sane back though and he hasn’t quite returned to his top level consistently.

12 goals and six assists in 29 games this season doesn’t look too bad but he has scored just once in his last 11 Bundesliga games.

It’s understandable that Bayern still want more from Sane having agreed a £55million deal for him in 2020.

If Sane doesn’t find his form again soon, Arsenal may just have a chance to land Sane – if Arteta still wants him.
